A rich cultural summer is just around the corner, announced the Public Library in Doljevac. Already the first days of July bring the first manifestations. Art colony in Orljan, now a traditional manifestation, which is organized as part of the Assembly of St. John the Baptist, begins on Thursday, July 1. Immediately afterwards, on Saturday, July 3, on the coast of South Moravia, close to Klisura, at the foot of the medieval town of Koprijan, the widely known culinary-cultural-entertainment-sports manifestation of the South Moravian Fish Magic will be held . Closing ceremony of the Assembly of St. John the Baptist, like every year, is celebrated on the eve of that holiday on July 6 on the Kukumiga hill, next to the church of St. Jovan, with an appropriate cultural and artistic program.
As a meeting place for many fine artists over the years, Orljane has become an important artistic center of fine artists from many parts of our country, but also beyond. The development of this manifestation is evidenced by the fact that over the years it has acquired an international character, because artists from abroad responded to the invitation of the organizers, and this is their 13th gathering. The same number of artists announce their arrival, and for the first time painters from Kosovo and Metohija are arriving. The art colony will last a week, and each of the painters will leave a few works, which is to supplement the rich collection that the Public Library owns, says Bogi Mitić, director of this institution, in a statement to Radio Koprijan.
Every summer, South Moravian fish magic justifies and surpasses the fame it has gained over the years, striving for further development and inclusion in the milieu of the famous culinary manifestations of the south of Serbia. Thousands of guests visit this event during the competition in the preparation of fish soup, and in addition to a full stomach, they also take home good impressions, funny stories, new experiences, make new acquaintances and expand their circle of friends. The event maintained its continuity and, unlike many others, was not interrupted even last year. This will be the 14th gathering of lovers of nature and good food. So far, 12 participants have announced the competition in preparing fish soup, but registrations are still possible until the very beginning of the event. It is planned that the program will start on July 3rd in the morning, and will last until the evening, when a cultural and entertainment program is organized, the announcement of the winners and the awarding of prizes and awards. According to Mitić, the prizes for the first three places won include kettles and cups, and certificates of appreciation for all participants. The best will be decided by a renowned three-member jury from the Association of Hospitality Workers of the City of Niš, with the president Nikola Mandić. Also, a number of accompanying events are planned, such as chess, darts and fishing competitions, and horse riding for the youngest, in cooperation with the equestrian club Nonius from G. Medjurovo.
St. John’s Day Assembly in Orljan, at the beginning of July, is one of the most joyous and most visited summer cultural and entertainment events in this region. This is supported by the fact that every year around five thousand people, not only from the municipality of Doljevac, but from this part of the country, visit one of the numerous events. The Orljan region is then a sign of nurturing the traditional values and customs of these areas. On the eve of the 6th of July holiday, locals and numerous guests traditionally gather on Kukumiga Hill, around the small church dedicated to this saint, but also around the Hollow Stone, whose miraculous powers, according to folklore, are widely known. Then an interesting cultural and entertainment program is organized, a folklore show, as well as a parade of participants through the village to the hill where the central manifestation is held. This year, the program on the hill starts at 8:30 p.m. and will last about two hours.
